Microsoft filed an innovative patent who uses machine learning to manage cooling system in consoles. This could be the answer to multiple high temperature issues that have plagued manufacturers for decades, including Microsoft itself with the so-called red ring of death at the dawn of the seventh generation of consoles.
The concept of machine learning is no stranger to those of Redmond, indeed, one of his last patents filed included an algorithm that registers and influences the emotions of the player, which could mean a jump in the possibility of regulating software and hardware to fully customize the playable experience for each person.
machine learning like temperature control, an idea from Microsoft
The patent lists a temperature sensor, fan, and fan tachometer used to run an application and get temperature information from the sensors and fan speed. Microsoft states that additional configuration can be done depending on the given fan control signal.
Due to this last piece of information, it is assumed that by using the player’s information, the specific time at which the speed increases or decreases could be changed. Only time will tell how far this technology progresses and in how many applications it can be used.
