The best custom ROM with Android, which serves as the basis for a large number of developments, is now available with Android 13 included: LineageOS 20 begins its update process with a version loaded to the brim with novelties. Increased security and privacy, updated security patches, improvements to root access handling, and a huge leap forward in the camera thanks to the inclusion of the CameraX API.
Android offers greater freedom when it comes to personalizing devices, also reviving them. Thanks to the fact that mobile phones and tablets allow the installation of custom firmware, at least as long as they have the bootloader unlocked, users of this operating system can completely change the way the phone works to relaunch it when makers stop updating it
LineageOS 20: Android 13 and Aperture, a new camera
As the LineageOS developers comment in a post on their page, the process to reach version 20 was a bit quicker than expected. With greater efficiency in processes, in LineageOS they even fixed the issues they had with their camera app: Fortunately for ROM users, the Camera2 API has been replaced by the more modern and complete CameraX. This brings a huge leap forward in media capture, at least according to the developers.
Aperture is the name of the new camera application that LineageOS 20 includes as standard in the ROM. This app supports smartphone secondary cameras as long as ROM cooks adapt firmware, new API enables motion stabilization control (OIS and EIS), Aperture makes it easier to adjust the frame rate in video recording and, at a generic level, improves the quality of the results.
In addition to Android 13 and all its basic novelties, as well as the new camera application, LineageOS 20 stands out for the introduction of new features such as the following:
- WebView, security patches and pre-installed apps get their relevant updates.
- New volume panel adapted from Android 13.
- Renewed update app with new interface for Android TV.
- LineageOS Recorder has been revamped with high quality stereo recording (WAV), Material You, and improvements taken from Google Recorder.
- The Android TV version of LineageOS changes its launcher to an ad-free one. In addition, it integrates Google TV options.
- Root access is redone to be more compatible with third-party apps (and less detectable).
- Bug fixes, stability improvements, cosmetic details adapted from Android 13 and other minor improvements introduced.
LineageOS 20 is now available to update on a good batch of devices. As this new version is established, it will also reach other mobiles, tablets and televisions; both officially and unofficially.
