PSVR 2’s new, hyper-spooky, jaw-dropping feature, coming to life in The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR, comes to life in razor-sharp detail.
We’re finally in 2023, a year that rhymes with PSVR 2. A new PS5 virtual reality headset that puts you in all your states.
Don’t blink with PSVR 2
The PSVR 2 will be equipped with advanced technologies that will greatly improve the immersion in virtual reality. And while we’re waiting for Horizon Call of the Mountain to become a premier showcase for the headset, another game might steal the show in our hearts: The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR. A terrifying old-school shooter that has you trapped aboard a roller coaster with no way to escape.
A hilarious sequel to Until Dawn Rush of Blood that might give you a real heart attack this time. When you blink, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR models start moving as soon as they stop moving and come dangerously close to you, to the point of horror, thanks to the eye-tracking function.
Alejandro Arqué Gallardo, director of the game, explained in Edge Magazine columns #380:
A door reads “Don’t Blink” and behind it is a room full of bloodstained mannequins wearing harlequin masks, their bodies twisted into unnatural positions. Then comes a time when you can’t help but let your eyelids close. As soon as you open your eyes, the mannequins are rearranged. Another blink and the phenomenon repeats, except one of them has come to life. By repeating this process, we’ll learn to use our eyes tactically to only blink when our weapons are ready.
above Upload VR.
It looks perfectly freaky, even has a sign warning it, and we’re hoping the devs push the vice to use it to achieve real, more unexpected jumpscares. Remember the lady standing before you in Until Dawn Rush of Blood…

The Sense controllers’ haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will also make the show, according to the director of The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR.
With haptic feedback you can feel the movement of the roller coaster on the tracks. You feel the wind and the rain on your hands. As for the adaptive triggers, we used them to create different sensations depending on the weapon with different resistance levels.
Additionally, as per the game’s PS Store sheet, the slightest shock from the PSVR 2 itself will be reflected through its own haptic feedback.
As your car hurtles down the tracks, absorb every bump and drop with haptic feedback that brings roller coaster thrills to life. Thanks to adaptive triggers, each weapon offers unique sensations when shooting at terrifying enemies that emerge from the shadows. Avoid falling beams, overturned buses and hanging witches. The helmet’s vibrations will make you feel the slightest shock if you’re not careful!
