Pokemon Go is hosting a Chespin Community Day event January 7 from 2-5pm in your local time.
As expected at a Community Day event, Chespin will spawn in large numbers with a high chance of spawning shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks which we list below.
How do I catch a shiny Chespin?
According to research by Pokémon community website The Silph RoadShiny rates on Community Days are around 1 in 24, meaning you should find some Shiny Pokémon if you keep playing during the three-hour window.

If you’re short on time or Pokéballs, you can pop one incensethen quickly Tap on every Chespin to look for shiny ones and run away from all that aren’t shiny. In particular, any Chespin you’ve already typed will point to where your player stands, so this should help identify which ones you may have already checked.
What Community Day move does Chespin’s Evolution learn?
If you evolve Quilladin into Chesnaught from 2pm to 10pm local time, it will learn the charged attack Frenzy Plant.
If you miss evolving it during this period, you can likely evolve it to get Frenzy Plant during a Community Day weekend event in December. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to catch the train.
How is Chesnaught doing in the meta?
Chesnaught is a great PvE raid attacker. While it’s behind picks like Roserade and most Legendary Pokemon, it’s worth grabbing a strong one for raiding. Set it up for success with Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant.
Chesnaught does quite well in PvP and the addition of Frenzy Plant means it can take out more targets that would cause problems across the various leagues. Line it up with Superpowered Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant to do some serious damage.
How do I make the most of Chespin Community Day?
The following bonuses are active during Chespin Community Day:
- 1⁄4 Hatch distance for eggs placed in incubators during the event
- Double candy for catching Pokémon
- Double the chance for level 31+ Trainers to get XL Candy when catching Pokémon
- Incense lasts three hours
- Lure Modules lasts three hours
- Chespin special photo bombs when taking snapshots
- An additional special trade
- Stardust cost to trade halved
That means you should hatch your eggs and use an Incense and try to get hold of some powerful Chespins.
If you can Mega Evolution Venusaur, Sceptile or Abomasnowget extra Chespin Candy per catch.
On top of all that, Niantic still runs special four-star raids from 5pm to 10pm where Chespin spawns in a 300m radius around the gym for 30 minutes when you complete the Quilladin raid. These raids cannot be conducted remotely. If the usual 2pm-5pm increase in spawns doesn’t get you the Chespin you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.
