Updates, addons, new games – there’s always something to download. Downloads are firmly anchored in our hobby and can quickly become a nightmare with slow internet connections. The Dataminer and SteamDBFounder Pavel Djundik has now discovered new evidence that Steam is apparently planning a new download variant. This could significantly reduce your waiting times.
But even without a new download system, Steam can shine, after all, the platform has now broken two new records:

Steam is currently more popular than ever and breaks two player records
What would the new download system look like?
According to Djundik, the first indications were found as early as October 2022, and the new update from Steam now also suggests it: Apparently it is a Peer-to-Peer-System, allowing data to be sent across devices on the same network instead of over the Internet.
What does that mean specifically? For example, if you have installed a game on your PC but now want to play the title on your Steam deck for a long train ride, the download is now much faster: Instead of using the cumbersome route of a server and your potentially slow internet, you can download via let your PC run – the main thing is that the devices are in the same network.

Apparently you can choose whether the transfer of the game data can be used by any user, only by your own devices or by Steam friends. The latter would certainly be useful at LAN parties if one of the group forgot to install the right games. When and if the function will appear is still unclear, Valve has not yet commented on this.
