We’ve been talking about a VR headset at Apple for years without getting too specific, but this time it seems to be the right one.
After many years of speculation of all kinds, is Apple’s VR headset coming soon? At least that’s what a brand new report from the very serious newspaper suggests. Bloomberg and its author Mark Gurman. According to the always very well-informed journalist, Apple is indeed preparing to launch its mixed reality headset Fall 2023.
A blended high-end VR headset for Apple
This powerful Apple headset is said to be powered by the same M1 chip found in the company’s MacBook Pro laptops. But the helmet should offer a very exceptional, bespoke operating system for the occasion, as well as a new Apple Store entirely dedicated to mixed reality applications. In addition to this potential exit window, Mark Gurman adds a layer of it by stating that the veil would be lifted ahead of Apple’s global developer conference next June (2023).
According to him, a small number of developers have already received a test helmet to start serious development on it. Which is understandable, if Apple indeed wants a release this fall, it is better to have applications in stock to tempt and attract the consumer.
What kind of use?
Before you jump for joy, however, you should know that the VR device in question from Apple should mainly focus on productivity applications and casual experiences. So, at least initially, don’t expect AAA games to land on the device to pierce your retinas.
In addition, the product should be quite expensive and ultimately not accessible to everyone. In any case, we still have to wait a bit before we can get our hands on it and understand its real usefulness in everyday life.
