Apple must pay for not respecting the privacy of its users!
Apple brought down the emporiums by raising the data protection banner, which Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has a lot to say about. But this time, those in the bitten apple took their own medicine, after being fined the National Commission for Computing and Liberties (CNIL), to send targeted advertisements to the App Store.
Even though the fine of 8 million dollars This has nothing to do with Facebook’s losses, the fact calls into question the company’s policy, traditionally accused of favoring its applications and services, harming competition. Thanks to this action, the CNIL ruled that Apple had violated article 82 of the Data Protection Actgenerating a fine as a sanction.
Apple also collects data without consent
According to the CNIL, Apple did not obtain the consent of French iPhone users before Use IDs to Serve Targeted Ads in iOS 14.6 Update.
For several months, Apple collected information and used that data for default ads, and the CNIL says that users had to perform a “large number of actions” to deactivate advertising in the Privacy section of the Settings app.
In a report, Apple said it was “disappointed” with the decision and plans to appealnoting that it only uses its own data for personalized advertisements.
Pain is the product of an investigation opened in 2021 following a complaint from the France Digitale association. France Digitale, a group representing startups and venture capital firms. The investigation concluded that the iOS 14 update did not comply with European personal data protections.
Since, Apple changed its targeted advertising policies with platforms like Apple Search AdsAccording to Apple, it takes content from approved product pages on the App Store and adheres to the same rigorous privacy standards, giving users a clear choice about whether or not they want personalized ads.
