You know Bioshock, right? The FPS license marked the ghosts, in particular thanks to their first work as intriguing as it is moving, and then declined with several sequels, including the famous Bioshock Infinite. The title has brought changes to the franchise, particularly in terms of artistic direction. A risky but winning bet for us as it’s one of the rare games to score 19/20 for us. But then what does it say? Goodbye Rapture and hello Columbia. Booker DeWitt, Killer, finds himself aboard this heavenly island with a very specific mission: to rescue Elizabeth, imprisoned since childhood by Columbia’s supreme leader. Why is she trapped and why is it up to you to free her? What secrets does this extraordinary city hide? To find out, just pay $7.49 on Steam.
We continue with another great video game license: Borderlands. The latest installment of the license, Borderlands 3, is currently availableavailable for $8.99 instead of $59.99, i.e. 85% discount. If you’ve never gotten your hands on a licensed game, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. As a reminder, Borderlands is a sassy and totally insane first-person shooter-looter series. In this third installment you will face off against the hideous Calypso twins who are trying to enslave all bandits and rule the world, or at least what’s left of it. Note that the ultimate version of the game is also on sale (-71%) and allows you to enjoy the 6 DLCs that accompany it, in addition to the base game. Other franchise games (Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland…) are also available at a lower price.
New game, new video game monster featuring Civilization VI, the latest opus of the very famous strategy games license. Do we really need to show the Civilization license? As a true reference in the 4X sector, it has also made a name for itself among neophytes. The aim is to manage your civilization and empire economically, culturally or militarily over the centuries. The game, which still achieved an excellent 17 out of 20 from us, is available for sale on Steam at a ridiculous price: $5.99. You can even treat yourself to a bundle with different DLCs for $29.62 and $15. So this is the opportunity to finally try this great license, even if you’re not exactly familiar with the genre.
We’re switching registers with a game that’s mostly focused on narrative. This is one of the little gems from French studio Quantic Dream. As you probably know, his specialty is more narrative games. You surely know Detroit: Become Human, which was a huge hit in the year of its release (2018). But do you know the older Quantic Dream titles like Heavy Rain? A true classic from the French studio, the title shaped many minds. The pitch? A serial killer stalks a town on the East Coast of the United States. We call him that “Origami Killer”. Your aim? Unmask him before he kills his next victim. And to do this, follow the adventures of four characters: Ethan Mars, father of a child kidnapped by the killer; Madison Pagie, journalist; Norman Jayden, FBI Profiler, and Scoot Shelby, Private Investigator. The title is currently available for $9.95 on Steam.
Are you looking forward to GTA 6? Why not grab one of the many GTA Likes, such as the Mafia License? Better yet, why not treat yourself to one of his games without spending too much? Leaving? Well, Steam Sales has answered your call by offering Mafia: Definitive Edition for $13.99 instead of $39.99. Don’t panic, this isn’t the 2002 game, which of course has aged quite a bit. The Definitive Edition is in fact a remake released in 2020. As the name suggests, it takes us into the middle of the underworld. Set in 1930s America, you play a young taxi driver who becomes an important pawn in the mafia. Unparalleled atmosphere, reimagined gameplay, impeccable writing… Mafia: Definitive Edition fully deserves its 17 out of 20.
With something for everyone, we bring you Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. As you can imagine, if you are not unfamiliar with the name Scott Pilgrim, this is an adaptation of the comics of the same name, released at the same time as another adaptation, but theatrically. Unsurprisingly, it picks up on the characters and universe of the comics. It was the developers of Ubisoft Montreal who brought this world to life, thanks in particular to the invaluable help of Paul Robertson (animator and graphic designer) and the Anamanaguchi group who took care of the game’s soundtrack. There is still time to experience this 2010 classic through the Complete Edition, which will be released later and will include all additional content. It is this edition that has collected the nice mark of 16 out of 20 from us. And it is currently available for $4.95 on Steam.
You’re going to take a small dose of indie games in this selection, right? So here is Skul: The Hero Slayer, an action-packed 2D platformer with roguelike mechanics. As a lonely skeleton, you must face the imperial army and allow the demon king to reclaim the throne. To accomplish this mission, Skul (that’s his name) can rely on a somewhat special ability: he’s able to change his abilities depending on the skull he’s wearing. With a pretty 80 on Metacritic, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a little nugget not to be missed, especially at such a low price. To coincide with the Steam sale, the game is only available from SouthPAW Games and NEOWIZ for $8.39 (instead of $16.79).
Admittedly, Ubisoft is in bad shape right now. But nonetheless, the French studio has given us many reasons to be proud with some very good titles in recent years. In addition to Assassin’s Creed, this also applies to titles with the Tom Clancy stamp, such as The Division. If soon the franchise will offer us a free-to-play game, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, it is already possible to get a taste of it by giving in for The Division 2, available for 9$ during the Steam sale.
We’re passing on a classic that certainly won’t appeal to everyone. Trine is a platform game between action and reflection, developed by the Finns at Frozenbyte. Little twist: you have to switch between three characters (knight, thief and mage), all united by the trine. But above all it’s its graphics and its atmosphere that will delight the critics. So the first game quickly offers a sequel, then another, and another. Overall, the Trine saga will offer us four works, all of which will be very well received. And if you missed it, it’s time to fix it with Steam sales. Only for $17.36 (compared to $86.96 in normal times), you can access not just one, but all four games in the franchise through the Trine: Ultimate Collection. And if you prefer to try your hand at just one of the titles, know that they’re on sale too, and they’re all available for less than 10 dollars.
We end with a niche genre, but one that has recently opened up to a wider audience by tackling a very popular franchise: Marvel Superheroes. The game we’re talking about is obviously Midnight Suns, also developed by the same studio that set up the license that interests us today, namely XCOM. If you enjoyed the gameplay of this XCOM Like and want to take it to the next level, maybe it’s time to give XCOM 2 a try. If we tell you this, you can imagine that it is because the game has the right to a great promotion during the Steam sale. It’s actually available for only $4.99 when you buy it (instead of $49.99). In this sequel, the aliens have taken over the earth and rule it tyrannically. But XCOM is not dead, not yet. A few survivors are still there to organize the response. In this strategy game, therefore, your objective will be to expel the aliens and destroy them once and for all. The whole thing benefits from a particularly solid gameplay that gave the title a brilliant 18 out of 20 from us.
