The Last of Us (HBO): Record broken and new trailer

Broken, HBO, Record, trailer

With the series adaptation of The Last of Us, HBO has hit the bull’s eye. After the already good start, the second episode immediately breaks the next record.

Everyone should have realized by now that The Last of Us isn’t exactly the worst series adaptation of a video game. The first episode was already a big hit and gave HBO one of the best series starts ever, right behind the Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon.

A whopping 4.7 million viewers watched the first episode on premiere night, and 18 million viewers have now enjoyed the first part of Joel and Ellie’s journey on HBO and HBO Max.

Now the second episode has appeared and brought HBO the next record, namely the highest increase in viewership from the first to the second week of an HBO series. The second episode was able to attract another 22 percent more viewers on its first night, i.e. a total of 5.7 million.

HBO published these numbers at least on Monday, confirming the successful implementation of the video game by Naughty Dog Studios. The rush to the series has also had an impact on the games themselves – the first installment of The Last of Us is seeing significant increases in purchases and has re-entered the top 20 in the UK ten years after its release in the UK.

One can probably assume that the series with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will break even more records, provided that it can maintain the level of the first two episodes. A preview of the third episode, which will be broadcast next week, is already available in the form of a new trailer:
