Google Chrome’s incognito mode is not as private as we imagine, but now it will be a little more private, preventing third parties who have access to our mobile from discovering what private browsing tabs we have opened
Google published an article with tips for be safer with chrome and in said article, the company took the opportunity to announce the launch of one of the most requested features by users: protect chrome incognito session.
Blocking incognito tabs is already a reality
Until now, incognito tabs were not protected. If we gave our phone to someone, they could open Chrome and see what tabs we had open in incognito mode, but from Chrome 109 It shouldn’t be like that anymore.
Burn 109 for Android will allow us block incognito tabs when exiting chromea new option of the same name that we will find in the settings of “Privacy and Security” from the Google browser.
With this option enabled, when we close Chrome and open it again, we will have to use the biometric authentication of our device, such as the fingerprint, or having to enter our PIN or pattern to be able to access the tabs opened in incognito mode. This way we make sure that only we will have access to the incognito tabs.
Google is enabling this new privacy option in Chrome for mobile today, but it won’t be available to everyone for a few weeks. Yet we can force this novelty through the Chrome flags that allow us to activate its new functions. In this case we need to enable chrome://flags/#incognito-reauthentication-for-android and restart the browser to apply the changes.
