After not being updated for quite some time, Cygames finally shared a new trailer Granblue Fantasy: Reconnection.
Over the weekend, we got the official second trailer for Granblue Fantasy: Relinked more than a year after the last trailer, and it’s just a teaser that promises the game will release sometime in 2022. Well, that obviously didn’t happen as we’re in 2023 and hadn’t seen a trace of the game until now, but the second trailer now promises a 2023 global release window.
The trailer is pretty over the top, showing off some Xenoblade Chronicles-esque expansive landscapes, from classic deserts with mysterious ruins, to woodlands with absolutely massive trees, to floating islands high above. All your favorite classic JRPG locales.
It also showcases a ton of playable characters, at least 10 if I recall correctly, though it looks like you’ll be walking around like a poster boy granny most of the time. Each character also looks to have its own unique fighting style, so it’s hoping to be something action game fans will pay attention to.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink was announced back in 2016, initially coming to PS4 and PSVR, with Bayonetta developer PlatinumGames at the helm. For whatever reason, that changed in 2019 when Cygames took over development, which may be part of the reason why it took at least seven years for the game to actually come out (assuming it does release this year).
Cygames also announced a different Granblue game over the weekend, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, the sequel to the 2020 fighting game from Guilty Gear developer Arc System Works. Rising looks much the same, but with one notable improvement: rolling back networking code. For some reason, it also has a Fall Guys-like side game built in, so even if you’re not into fighting games, is there?
