After the new edition of Dead Space really swept Metacritic and got top ratings from game testers worldwide, the first Steam reviews from users have now gone online.
And they are positive almost across the board: of the 6,000 votes cast on the launch weekend around 88 percent positive. A similar picture emerges from the user score on Metacritic, where the ratings are currently leveling off at 8.8 on PC and 8.7 out of 10 points on PS5.
The Steam players praise it
In general, many users are enthusiastic about the editing atmosphere and the subtle improvements compared to the original. What exactly has changed compared to the original version from 2008, we unravel for you in our test of Dead Space:

Dead Space: A great game becomes a masterpiece
At the same time, players praise how close the remake stays to the original and captures the mood of the past. the user Liquid means for example:
Sometimes you like to put your rose-colored glasses on at a game from ten years ago and remember it much better than it actually was. This game is like experiencing that memory of Dead Space. It’s just an improvement in just about every way.
Some users point out that Dead Space is proof that EA still has a knack for good single-player games, although the publisher regularly publishes the Moving away from story games signal. So writes on Steam for example PatmanXtreme:
So EA can still do something good. One of the best remakes in recent years. The well-known Dead Space feeling comes up again, which was completely missing in Dead Space 3 at the time. It’s not just the graphics that have been significantly improved here. The already fantastic sound design of the original has also been improved here.
How much better the remake really looks compared to the original is shown by our large graphic comparison, where we compare scene by scene:

A “but” remains
Still, there remains a clear minority of a few hundred votes giving the Dead Space reboot on Steam a thumbs down. If you take a closer look at the reviews, it seems that this is the case in the first place technical problems to be responsible.
Some users criticize stuttering and stuttering passages, especially when the game loads new level sections. At the user Alucreed went so far that he had Dead Space refunded for the time being. He writes about his experiences:
After Callisto I had more hope that the Dead Space Start would go better. But unfortunately the game also stutters, if not as badly as Callisto at the beginning. My hardware is up to date and doesn’t play on a potato. It’s better to wait for a few more patches (if they ever come) and then buy them in the summer sale.
The spiritual Dead Space successor, Callisto Protocol, fell flat on its face in December 2022 because of its disastrous release status and received a heavy devaluation in our test due to technical problems.
Also the user DasUnding agrees with the criticism of Dead Space, draws parallels to Callisto Protocol and cites the stuttering as the reason for his negative review:
I just watched the game for about 1.5 hours and would basically continue to play it. However, I know the game too well to play it again and on the other hand I can’t stand these loading jerks anymore. There are constant reload stutters in new areas in 2023, where every other game is an “openworld game”, but here a few gears seem to cause problems. After the Stutter protocol I’m honestly tired of it.
Briefly classified: How bad is it really? In relation to the number of positive reviews, technical problems seem to be extremely rare. Depending on the system, we also noticed occasional small lags in the test, but never so serious that a devaluation was necessary.
Our tip: If you have concerns about dead space because of stuttering, be sure to note the system requirements that an SSD hard drive requires.
