The opening date for Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood is fast approaching and now more information is coming out regarding visitor restrictions. One limitation he discovered The Wall Street Journal is that visitors to Super Nintendo World who want to ride a Mario Kart-themed ride won’t be able to do so if their waists are 40 inches or taller. The restriction is due to potential security issues, although Nintendo and Universal Studios Hollywood have yet to comment publicly. Super Nintendo World opens to the general public on February 17th.
“Our first priority is always the safety of guests and employees,” says Jim Seay, president of ride manufacturer Premier Rides, which has built roller coasters for Six Flags, SeaWorld and Universal Studios. “We’re balancing that with a very focused effort to make rides as affordable as possible.”
However, full capacity rides may not suit larger adults. “If you size every seat for the biggest person possible, you guarantee that a smaller child can’t ride,” says Jim Shull, who has worked for more than 30 years as a Disney Imagineer, the Walt Disney Co.’s term for theme. park designers.
