Amazon could be the new intellectual property holder tomb Raider franchise, if reports on the matter are accurate.

According to The Lord of the Rings website Fellowship of Fans, the Embracer Group has sold the rights to the legendary franchise to Amazon for $600 million.

Are Tomb Raider and Deus Ex out now?

The site said it could exclusively reveal that the sale was a “whole package,” making it “Amazon’s second-biggest purchase after TV rights to The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power.”

In May 2022, Embracer purchased the copyright of “Tomb Raider” from Square Enix for US$300 million, including more than 50 IPs from three studios including Crystal Dynamics.

Crystal Dynamics is using Unreal Engine 5 to develop a new Tomb Raider game, said to be the studio’s “most content-rich game to date.” When it was announced, Amazon was revealed as the publisher, and if it also bought the IP, it would now be the sole owner of the franchise, not just the publisher.

Amazon is also working with Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge on the Tomb Raider franchise.
