Amazon has reportedly leased the rights to Tomb Raider for $600 million.

The online retailer Amazon is said to have spent a lot of money for the Tomb Raider license: 600 million dollars.

However, the price should not have been put on the table for the purchase of the rights to the franchise. According to reports, Amazon only leased the rights from the Embracer Group for the price, as reported by Fellowship of Fans.

If so, then Embracer still owns the Tomb Raider IP. It was only acquired in a deal with Square Enix last year for $300 million when it took over several development studios.

The exact terms of the Tomb Raider deal are unknown. However, Amazon may have secured exclusive rights for a period of time
to create content with it.

Amazon has already taken on the role of publisher for a new Tomb Raider game being developed by Crystal Dynamics. It had previously been reported that a Tomb Raider series was said to be in the works on Amazon. Amazon also wants to expand the Tomb Raider franchise in a similar way to Marvel.
