During today’s Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Digital Event, scientist extraordinaire Bahari shared his notes on what hunters can expect when the title’s free update 4 arrives on February 7, 2023. The latest update to the monstrous expansion of the best-selling Monster Hunter Rise brings icy new enemies that will have frozen monsters and hunters, along with new anomaly exploration content, event quests, and new paid DLC. The February digital event can be found on the official website Monster Hunter YouTube channel.
A cold force of nature that few scientists have ever seen is making its way to the Frost Islands. Velkhan, an elusive elder dragon who debuted as the lead monster in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, was spotted by the scouts of Elgado Outpost. The endearingly cold demeanor of this monster hints at the serene silence of the many creatures that remain frozen behind it. Freezing the surrounding water in the air, Velkhana is capable of forming massive columns of ice when engaged in combat, and can even freeze the hottest hunters. The winds of winter often bring bad news, and the arrival of Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax proves this adage to be true. What this resurrected elder dragon is capable of remains a mystery, as it is considered too dangerous to study. Hunters dedicated to collecting more data for their tirelessly inquisitive science teams can face Velkhan starting at MR 10 and Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax starting at MR 160. All the materials collected in these outings will of course be invaluable for crafting new weapons and armor that will have their own unique skills.
Qurio-curios will also have a new Anomaly Research at their fingertips, with Afflicted Chaotic Gore Magala joining A8★ Quests, and the Anomaly Research cap increasing to 220. Elder Dragons will start appearing from difficulty level 111 onwards, so be on the lookout ready to fight! Event Quests will continue to arrive each week, including two new Dual Threat missions featuring Seething Bazelgeuse and Chaotic Gore Magala, along with Arena Quests featuring Furious Rajang and Scorned Magnamalo. Each Event Quest has its own unique reward, so be sure to try them out.
The free title update 4 also brings a variety of new paid DLC, including layered armor for rookie hunter Lance Gunn and the venerable Ran Page. Hand-drawn by the underappreciated talent of Minot, these adorable drawings have been appearing since Monster Hunter Rise and help new hunters understand the ins and outs of Kamura Village. Speaking of Minot, players can also purchase the “Minoto” layered armor set along with new emotes, poses, stickers, music and hunter voices. To celebrate the release of Free Title Update 4, players can also sign up for early access to the free Palamute layered armor that makes their furry friends take on the appearance of the elder dragon Velkhane! Visit the official Monster Hunter website for more information on how to sign in with a Capcom ID.
Stay tuned for future updates to the title, as new monsters and more await just around the corner with the free Title Update 5 coming in April 2023.
