An upcoming Twitter API (Application Programming Interface) change could make it impossible for many Gacha players to use their accounts for Genshin Impact, Victory: Nikke, and other games, leading some developers to urge their users to link their emails to their account.
Users who have already invested thousands of hours (and possibly dollars) into their favorite anime slots will likely see their account access removed if players don’t follow the developer’s advice. If you’re one of the patrons of the finer things in the game, I suggest you make the change as soon as possible.
For those who don’t know, Official Twitter Development Account Announced that free access to the Twitter API will no longer be provided this week. Instead, starting on February 9, users will have to pay to access the data.
For most users, this means regularly posting bot accounts (We are big fans of Possums Every Hour) will have to pay a fee to function like them. As a result, many accounts decided to cease operations rather than spend money on Twitter’s proposed plan.
For video game companies, these new changes have potentially huge implications. Games like Genshin Impact and Goddess of Victory: Nikke allow players to link their game accounts to their Twitter, allowing them to log in through the social media platform. These API changes affect the process, potentially turning people away.

Now, this can be an issue with all kinds of video games, not just Gacha games. What’s particularly worrisome about Gacha games, however, is that a lot of money is being spent on these products; character banners in Genshin Impact, for example, can run a person into the hundreds of dollars. These “whales,” while often the butt of jokes, also risk losing the very content for which they have paid so much.
So whether or not you like spending some of your paycheck on uzi’s wobbly anime characters, take the time to link an alternate account to your free-to-play online game before the API changes.
