My friends already know me: I’m one of those people who always keep order on their iPhone. I have my organization system with apps on two pages, and I never let adding or removing apps cause a mess. My iPhone should always be perfect, my way.
That’s why the App Library in iOS didn’t strike me as unnecessary: I don’t need another way to quickly access my apps, because I know exactly where each one is at all times. But I have to say I recently found myself using the App Library more
Organize it yourself or do you trust an algorithm?
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s a quick overview: App Library is that section behind the last apps page on your iPhone where you can see another arrangement of those apps based on what iOS thinks which may be more useful to you. In addition to that, it also allows you to browse apps at the top of the screen.
The system remembers (with varying degrees of success) the times when you most frequently use an app and puts that app at the top of that app library so you can open it quickly. Who, over time, makes an application easier to open from the library than from the page and/or folder you have.
It’s amazing when an iOS feature is able to change your unintended highlights using the iPhone
The funny thing is, I had no intention of using the library, but little by little and with accidental finger swipes, I ended up opening some apps from there. And over the months, a habit has finally developed in my head: if I doubt for m ore than a second where an application is, I immediately go to the library. AND magic soup
Is it good or bad? For one thing, iOS itself leads me to open apps faster. on the other hand, it motivates me to ignore the order I imposed on my pages and depend more on what the system tells me to open at that time or not. It’s a simple involuntary change in behavior, but behind it involves more things.
For now, I’ll pay more attention to how I find and open apps in iOS. I want to see if I’m actually opening the apps I want right now and not the ones the OS thinks I should be opening (It’s very easy to open Twitter if I encounter it earlier, which fuels a bad habit). If the App Library really helps me, maybe I’ll use it more often.
