Nina got her hands on a new Tekken 8 trailer during the weekend’s Tekken World Tour Finals, giving us our first look at the silent assassin in action.
In the trailer, not only do we get to see her new design, ready-to-go outfit and dual guns, but she pulls off some nice combos. Longtime fans of the character will recognize many classic attacks, as well as some brand new ones using her trusty sidearm.
Beyond the characters, we also get to see a brand new war-torn arena, with walls collapsing and helicopters circling overhead. Thanks to the new system built into these arenas, we see Nina bounce Paul off the wall when the explosion happens. If anything, it reminded me of Dead or Alive’s stage transitions, albeit less ridiculous.
We also saw the Heat system in action, a major technological change from the Tekken 8 series. It’s all about staying aggressive, boosting your damage for at least ten seconds, though that time stops when you hit your opponent. So we see a lot of characters get ham, throw flashy moves and look great.
Of course, there’s a lot in store for Iron Fist fans this weekend, beyond this trailer. It’s filled with great matches (congratulations to Pakistan for the trophy), and also has a full 30 minutes of discussion on Tekken 8’s mechanics. Let’s also not forget the announcement of the 2023 Tekken World Tour. It’s completely online, thank God.
