More and more sales for GTA V!
In the last few hours, Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, has released its latest financial results. Thanks to them, we learn that Grand Theft Auto V has once again broken a significant bar! uh yeah In fact, the multi-record game has just surpassed 175 million adventures from completed units. An amazing tally that puts the game in second place among the best-selling video game productions of all time. It is still and always being beaten by Minecraft with its 238 million sales, just that.
Next to, In the top 10 best-selling games of all time, we find another Rockstar Games production, namely Red Dead Redemption II.
Expected layoffs?
Despite these records, Take-Two reports that net sales were below forecast. Instead of $1.41 billion, the company reported “only” total net sales of $1.38 billion for the quarter. The low sales of Marvel’s Midnight Suns are more or less responsible for this result.
We then learn that Take-Two is preparing to take cost-cutting measures in the coming months, aiming to save about $50 million per year. While Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, points out that the company doesn’t aim for large-scale layoffs, we do learn that several positions could still be cut – good sad news.
We don’t expect large-scale job cuts or anything like that, but unfortunately we don’t guarantee a job for life. So there will be some instances of job losses, but I think it will be pretty modest. Strauss Zelnick, PDG by Take-Two Interactive
