That same week, we saw the presentation, but not the launch, of the OnePlus Pad. However, OnePlus is not the first manufacturer to announce its first tablet in these times. See other examples nearby such as the Realme Pad and Realme Pad mini from Realme or the OPPO Pad OPPO Pad Air. Even Google has confirmed the launch of the Pixel Tablet for this 2023.
That a company already involved in the tablet business is launching new models in 2022 and 2023 shouldn’t be strange. However, it surprises us that previously unknown companies in this field are making these bets. And yes, there is a first time for everything, but It’s not that the tablet sales data backs them up
Apple and Samsung have a tough duopoly in the sector
If we look at the sales figures for tablets in recent years, we see that in 2014 there was a boom with 220.1 million units sold. In 2019, the minimum was produced with 144.2 million and, despite the fact that the 2022 estimate amounts to 165.8 million, we are still far from this beautiful year 2014 on the tablet market.
However, there are more worrying figures when we talk about the manufacturer index. Apple and Samsung can be happy to be the absolute queens of the market, both have experienced growth and show a clear trend towards duopoly. Amazon has also seen growth, but it doesn’t even reach half the market share of the other two. Lenovo and Huawei are still in the TOP, but far and with downward trends.

And it is that we speak of Samsung as the leader with nearly 40% of shares followed by Apple with about 30%. Huawei is in the third stage with around 10%. So yes, even if it alternates positions, the duopoly also moves on our territory.
Therefore, we observe that the outlook is not really encouraging for new builders. The barriers to entry to the sector are tough and despite the popularity that p
Actually, nor do they provide anything differential enough to do so. And beware, it’s not that these are bad tablets in their ranges, but they don’t look attractive enough to be “The Alternative” and not just another option. Perhaps the OnePlus Pad stands out slightly because of the 144 Hz curved screen, although without knowing its price and without having been launched on the market, it seems early to judge.
In any case, and you will allow me here to bring my personal appreciation, that new tablets continue to come out is ultimately positive for the user. As I said, without being differential, they are yet another option, but precisely This can be considered as something positive for the consumer because he has more choice. However, if the strategy of the “new” brands is to gain a foothold, they have frankly complicated the task.
