The most expensive Steam game only costs half a million dollars, now nothing at all

costs, dollars, expensive, game, million, Steam

Mishaps happen to all of us. Sometimes the bottle cap accidentally rolls under the bed, sometimes we sneeze while brushing our teeth and sometimes we accidentally offer our Steam game for half a million dollars. oopsie This is what happened with Megajump, a nice little 3D platformer that has actually been sold on Steam for very little money (4 dollars) since 2020. Well, until then in January the price curve suddenly looked like this:

Here you can see the price history of Megajump over the months.

Here you can see the price history of Megajump over the months.

With a retail price of over 500,000 dollars, Megajump became the most expensive game on Steam overnight. Incidentally, this record was previously held by the rather crappy visual novel The Hidden and Unknown with a serious price of almost 2,000 dollars. It’s different with Megajump: The whole action was just a mistake.

What has happened there?

According to their own statements, one-person developer Laptop gaming wanted to experiment a bit with the upper price limit that Valve allows for a single game. And the result of the experiment made Megajump jump to over 500,000 dollars. Problem with the matter: Steam only allows a change in the price every 30 days – so the horrendous sum remained.

For the Dev, the whole action was not so pleasant: According to his own statements, he was accused of money laundering and he only countered I wish I had enough money to worry about money laundering. Actually he wanted the prize – so his Steam Blog – only adapt to indicate new content in the hopping game.

It’s now 30 days and as an apology, Laptop gaming is now giving away its game – so you can download Megajump and play it yourself anytime. And at least the few handful of Steam reviews are pretty positive about the entertaining experience.

Well, if you’re one of those unlucky people who accidentally spent half a million dollars on a 3D platformer, then a) congratulations on your life journey so far and b) you can write the dev yes. Maybe there’s a money-back guarantee.
