In Eskalon Online, Gothic and Risen collide to form a giant role-playing game
Even Piranha Bytes shied away from this: Eskalon Online combines the game worlds of Gothic and Risen to a large online role-playing game running on private multiplayer servers. The trailer above still speaks of a release in 2022, but the gates will actually open on February 19, 2023.
In fact, Piranha Bytes, the original developers of the two RPG series, According to concept art have flirted with such a crossover after the end of Gothic 3. Eskalon Online thus takes up an old, never officially implemented idea while Piranha Bytes is currently developing Elex 3 and busy working elsewhere on the official Gothic remake:

But the game that’s on the GMP mod for Gothic 2 is as unofficial as it gets: Eskalon Online is run by a group of hobbyists who take parts of the game worlds from Risen and Gothic to a new scenario installed. You can find impressions of it in our picture gallery:
After ancient temples erupt from the ground all over the world, Myrtana is largely spared from the cataclysm Insel Escalon to the hotspot for refugees. New players choose a role and then have to register the server’s roleplay rules subdue. All of this is played out via text chat and by unwinding typical Gothic animations with command line commands.
So you can expect a similar gaming experience as on other Gothic multiplayer servers. In 2022, Gothic: Untold Chapters made a name for itself:

Apart from the interaction with other players, you can expect the typical gameplay from Gothic and Risen in Eskalon Online, however, unlike in the official role-playing games, you can also hire yourself out as a merchant or politician. New Guilds such as Inquisition, Brigands or the Order of the Holy Flame are also available.
As the game progresses, you can travel to other islands, including, for example the city of Khorinis from Gothic 2, Caldera from Risen 2 or the desert Varant, known from Gothic 3. The community currently counts on the official website around 300 members, you will also find installation instructions there.
