Dead Island 2 comes out a week early. Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios made the announcement earlier today, also confirming that Dead Island 2 has gone gold.
“You asked for it, you got it. Dead Island 2 went gold and is out a week early,” the tweet reads. “See you at HELL-A on April 21, 2023.”
Neither publisher plus developer said exactly when Dead Island went gold, marking the development milestone when a master copy is sent to the publisher to create physical media for distribution. These days going gold doesn’t mean as much as it used to, as most games have day one patches that are sometimes half the size of the original install file, while others don’t even bother putting data on them. the disc and instead simply instructs the player to download the game online. But hey, having all the features and arriving a week early are wins, so we’ll take them.

Dead Island 2 is the zombie buster action sequel to Dead Island: Riptide and the third game in the Dead Island series. However, it’s not actually on an island; Dead Island 2 takes place in Los Angeles and San Francisco, both of which are under quarantine due to the zombie outbreak. Just like its predecessors, you’ll be tasked with creating fun and innovative weapons to kill zombies by the hundreds, and you’ll have to keep crafting them because they’ll tend to break.
As in the previous games, you will be able to choose between four playable characters: Ryan the exotic dancer, Jacob the stuntman, Amy the Paralympic champion and Dani the shop assistant. Everyone seems pretty reassured by the fact that they’re stuck in Los Angeles with a horde of bloodthirsty zombies, but that’s always been the tone these games have chosen.
Dead Island 2 is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on April 21.
