We’ve rounded up everything we know about Season 3, including the cast, plot, trailers, and more – plus every rumor we know about the show’s future.
The Witcher season 3 release date
Netflix has confirmed The Witcher will return in Summer 2023although we don’t know the exact release date yet.
That said, showrunner Lauren Hissrich told Collider that she estimates it will be around eight months before release during the interview. This article went live in late December, which would put The Witcher season 3 on track for an August 2023 release date.
In the same article, Hissrich claimed that the series could be split into two parts. Netflix has done this with other big budget releases such as Season 4 of Stranger Things.

Who is in the cast of season 3?
All three main cast members will return for Season 3, so Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer.
We also expect to see Joey Batey as Jaskier (we’re already anticipating all the new songs), Anna Shaffer as Triss, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, and Kim Bodnia as Vesemir.
New cast members were also revealed: Robbie Amell as Gallatin, Meng’Er Zhang as Milva, Hugh Skinner as Prince Radovid, and Christelle Elwin as Mistle.
Gallatin is the leader of the Scoia’tael guerrilla army, which fights for Nilfgaard. He is fiercely loyal to his people and will eventually clash with Francesca over who deserves power.
Milva is a huntress who was adopted by the dryads of Brokilon Forest. She is skilled with a bow and is said to be a formidable foe to anyone who crosses her path.
Prince Radovid is the younger brother-in-law of King Vizimir. He has ideas on many political matters, but he may be in over his head.
Finally, Mistle is a member of the Rats, a group of thieves. She is suspicious of most, but a chance encounter changes everything for her.
What will be the plot of season 3?
The first season was mainly inspired by the short stories The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny, and the second season combined elements from these stories, mixed with parts of the novel Blood of Elves.
The third season will be inspired by The Time of Contemp, the second main novel in The Witcher saga. This book follows the main trio – Yennefer, Ciri and Geralt – traveling to Aretuza. However, they are forced to separate when a coup takes place.
Here is the official synopsis for the third season:
Geralt and Yennefer will have a lot to do after the latter betrayed Geralt’s trust the previous season. While she’s already tried to prove her worth by risking her life for Ciri, there may still be work to be done.
Ciri’s destiny to become a world-destroyer will no doubt be a driving force in Season 3, especially since we now know that her father, (who was thought to be dead), is out to find her. However, now that the main trio are reunited, we can watch them grow as a family and battle those forces.
Ciri still has a ways to go in her training and battles, so we’ll no doubt see her grow even more as a warrior in the third season. Digital Spy also reported that she might explore her sexuality in seasons 3 and 4.
Season 3 will further explore the Elven War and introduce us to the Scoia’tael. In an interview with Polygon, Hissrich says we’ll begin to understand why they’re fighting.
Joey Batey also told GamesRadar that Jaskier will have multiple love interests in the third season.
Will there be a season 4 of The Witcher?
Yes, Netflix has confirmed that there will be a fourth season of The Witcher. However, Henry Cavill will leave the show before that. Geralt will instead be played by Liam Hemsworth.
Netflix hasn’t specified why Cavill will leave the role, but many have speculated that it could be down to creative differences.
Nonetheless, Hissrich told Entertainment Weekly that Henry would receive a “heroic send-off” to honor his time on the show.
According to LADbible, showrunner Lauren Hissrich said she has a lot more material beyond season 2. ‘we add the shooting time. , production and post-production.
