WIld Hearts gets a lot of praise but a lot of criticism on Steam.

Wild Hearts is the latest game from publisher EA: A kind of Monster Hunter clone set in feudal Japan, where you kill huge beasts just like in the big role model, forge new weapons and armor from their individual parts and become stronger and stronger.

Wild Hearts was already able to convince us in the GameStar test, only the technical problems of the PC version put a damper on the rating. But what do the international press and the players on Steam say?

Wild Hearts delivers what’s missing in Monster Hunter

Much praise from the critics

The PS5 version of Wild Hearts is coming at Metacritic to an average of 80 rating points, the PC version to a slightly lower 78 – which is probably due to the crashes and frame rate drops in the PC version. However, many press reviews are very positive and give a lot of praise.

For example, Daniel Link writes about the PC Gameswhich awards 80 points:

New fodder for hungry Monster Hunters: Wild Hearts isn’t in the same league as the original, but it offers fresh hunting fun and cool monsters… erm, kemonos.

Even with the big gaming website GameSpot there’s a straight 80 and a lot of praise for the Karakuri system, with which players can craft various buildings and devices in the game world at lightning speed and use them in battle:

The basic gameplay of Wild Hearts doesn’t deviate too much from Monster Hunter’s formula, but the surprising decision to focus it all on a fast-paced build-up mechanic is a stroke of genius.

The Karakuri system upgrades every single part of Wild Hearts. Combat, locomotion, and co-op are all enhanced by his presence and the way karakuri is woven into each component.

While there are some weaknesses, particularly in terms of technical performance, Wild Hearts is a welcome entry into a genre otherwise dominated by a single series.

One of the lowest ratings awarded PC Gamer with 63 points:

Sublime battles can only partially compensate for a poor building system, too few monsters and a miserable performance.

Massive criticism on Steam

A completely different picture emerges in the Steam User Reviews from: After around 1,700 ratings, Wild Hearts is up to date Mostly negativeonly 32 percent of the user ratings are positive.

The reason for this is clear: Almost all negative reviews refer to the technical problems of the PC version. There are clear comments on the shop page:

The price is higher than the FPS you can get in this game

Steam user Katsummie

I own an RTX 3090 and the game runs very, very badly! Even Hogwarts with its poor optimization is way better! I’m waiting for them to “hopefully” fix it because the game has potential.

Steam-Nutzer Sheekman

Stay away for heaven’s sake, you’re not even getting a stable 60 FPS.

Performance patch is in the works

EA has turned into one forum post already commented on the performance problems. According to the developers, numerous technical problems have already been identified and should be fixed next week fixed with a big patch.

As EA writes, a CPU threading problem is said to be the main reason for the miserable performance on many systems. With the patch, the game should also run much better on high-end PCs.

Have you tried Wild Hearts yet? How’s it going for you guys and more importantly how are you enjoying chasing those giant Kemonos? Tell us in the comments!
