Resident Evil 4 Remake devs want to make another chainsaw controller, but run out of time

Remember the chainsaw-shaped controller you can play with Resident Evil 4 and? Turns out the remake developers wanted to make another one.

With the Resident Evil 4 remake coming up soon, March 24th in fact, it’s clear that many fans are excited to re-experience this all-time classic. There’s one thing missing, though: a limited-edition chainsaw controller that you can actually use on the PS2. It’s an incredible relic from a bygone era that we all miss dearly, and it turns out the developers behind the remake actually wanted to make a new one, but ultimately didn’t have the time to do so.

Game Informer recently spoke to Resident Evil 2 remake director Yasuhiro Ampo and Resident Evil 4 remake producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi about a whole bunch of things, but apparently our biggest concern is the chainsaw controller (thanks GamesRadar). “We wanted to make one, but we’ve put everything we have into the game’s development,” Hirabayashi said. “Maybe we can look at it another day, if we get the chance.” Even if they’re not working on one, maybe there’s some new hope after all.

Obviously, a new controller might be made for the PC or PS5, but even if you want to get your hands on the original controller (a limited edition of the original Resident Evil 4), checking out eBay shows you’ll have to put down a few hundred pounds for the fun.

Capcom recently showed off 12 minutes of Resident Evil 4 gameplay, and like everything we’ve seen so far, it looks pretty good. Whether or not the remake can fix the franchise’s biggest problem remains open to question, but regardless, it’s still likely to be something to look forward to.
