Does Joel die in Episode 6 of The Last of Us?

Die, episode, Joel

Sometimes it’s okay to indulge a little. Cliffhangers are all fun and good, but there’s some comfort in knowing how something ends, or at least whether or not it continues. And in something as gritty as HBO The last of us, it’s probably good to take that comfort with you wherever you can find it. Even if that means checking to see whether or not one of the show’s main characters dies in the middle of the first game or season one… like you just did.

Well, in the interest of offering some sort of consolation, or at least some safe answers after the cliffhanger ending of Season 1 Episode 6, let’s elaborate.

[Ed. note: From here on, this post contains spoilers for The Last of Us Part 1.]

To answer that, I have to spoil what’s happening with Joel The last of us Part 1: Joel does not die The Last of Us Part 1. I understand why you freaked out, but honestly, on the show, his wound doesn’t even look that bad. He’s fine. Well, he’s not doing well, but he’ll get through, even if the stops aren’t that pleasant.

Now, to answer every available question, we will also delve into the much more distant topic:

Does Joel die in The Last of Us Part 2?

[Ed. note: The rest of this story contains spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2. Please do not keep reading if you are going to be annoyed that The Last of Us Part 2 gets spoiled here. If you’re still here, it isn’t my fault.]

I know you probably didn’t read the editor’s note up there, so I’ll give you a second chance: if you don’t want to The Last of Us Part 2 (And The last of us Season 2, for that matter) spoiled for you, read this no further. Please, it’s easier for everyone if you leave.

Well, if you’re still here, you can know that after an hour, Joel absolutely dies The Last of Us Part 2. He gets the shit kicked out of him, then gets beaten to death with a golf club by a character we’ve never met, only to discover that she’s a big deal and the game’s antagonist (sort of). Honestly, this is all very silly. Anyway, the rest of the game revolves around Ellie’s quest for revenge and all the ways that quest is destroying her personally, emotionally and spiritually. It’s a huge damn crap and accordingly The last of us Co-showrunner Craig Mazinit will last at least two seasons when the show gets there.

Here we go! Now you know what happened to Joel in the last of us Games and what’s next for the show. I hope you are happy.
