Only recently did the developers of Sons of the Forest decide not to postpone their game again, but to bring it into Early Access. Apparently a good idea given the number of players.
Survival fans have surely had Sons of the Forest on their list for a long time. Yesterday the game went into Early Access after the developers decided to go that route rather than postpone the game again.
The players apparently accepted the offer with thanks, because the number of players is already more than impressive. Launched yesterday, the game has already reached 289,840 simultaneous players at its peak – a more than remarkable amount. The game is currently among the top 5 most played titles, just behind CS:GO, Dota 2, Apex Legends and PUBG: Battlegrounds. Sons of the Forest currently ranks 27th among the most successful Steam launches in terms of simultaneous players.
More than remarkable for an Early Access title, whose predecessor, however, was already able to build a loyal fan base. Shortly after the game was released yesterday, even Steam itself stumbled and could not be reached for a while. However, whether this is related to Sons of the Forest cannot be proven.
Despite the Early Access status and some construction sites, what the Endnight Games team has put together seems to be going down very well with the fans. The positive feedback currently outweighs the ratings at over 86 percent. Among other things, the environments, the inventory and the construction mode as well as the decent performance are praised.
It will be interesting to see how the game will continue to develop and whether the fan base will continue to grow or will quickly drop out again after the initial enthusiasm.
