Microsoft has once again given its Flight Simulator a fresh update – and above all it cleans up New Zealand and brings it into shape.
The Microsoft Flight Simulator has received a fresh update and is bringing New Zealand into shape. The region will receive several major improvements in flight simulation.
The main focus of World Update XII: New Zealand was to make flying over New Zealand much more realistic than before. For this purpose, significantly higher resolution satellite images were used in order to adapt and pimp the digital elevation models based on them.
Seven cities alone were remodeled based on high-resolution photographs: Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Nelson, Queenstown, Tauranga and Wellington. There are also nine airports that have been hand-crafted and incorporated, including: Gisborne Airport, Milford Sound Airport (NZMF), Martins Bay Aerodrome (NZMJ), Gorge River Airstrip (NZQE), Rotorua Airport (NZRO), Lake Tekapo Airport (NZTL) , Whangarei Airport (NZWR), Westport Airport (NZWS) and Quintin Lodge Airstrip (T004).
Perhaps most exciting for fans of The Lord of the Rings is the addition of the hobbit village of Matamata as one of a total of 62 points of interest. Also on this list are the New Zealand Parliament, Hell’s Gate, Dog Island Lighthouse and many more.
New trips and reconnaissance flights, including over Auckland in a Cessna 152, complete the major update.
