News JVTech This smartphone has the best screen and camera in the world? Honor introduces the new Magic5 Pro
Honor took advantage of the mobile technology fair in Barcelona to renew its range of Magic smartphones with the leading Magic5 Pro, even more beautiful, more powerful and at an increasing price. Is it worth it?
This February 27th, Honor has chosen the day of the 45th anniversary of our national Thomas Pesquet to announce a smartphone with a design inspired by the first photograph of a black hole ever taken. A wonderful coincidence that would be even nicer if this smartphone becomes a success.
Design and specifications of the Honor Magic5 Pro
You can’t tell a Magic5 Pro from a Magic4 Pro on the front. We always find that gigantic 6.8-inch screen and its curved edges and angles. A successful style effect that makes you want to go back with a swipe. The screen is interrupted by a small pill housing the selfie camera and a depth sensor to improve background blur.

Record results for the Magic5 Pro screen and camera
Where Honor manages to hit hard before the first tests the amazing results of the DXOMARK website, a French group specialized in smartphone benchmarks. Following a specific protocol for each category, they award a score that gives a clear idea of the quality of the battery, the screen, the photo…
The Magic5 Pro manages the feat of taking first place in two categories:
- The screen: 1300 nits of brightness in normal mode, which goes up to 1800 nits. Only the iPhone 14 Pro performs better at 2000 nits. Color accuracy is impressive with a Delta E of 0.27. But what surprises me the most is when Honor states that the Magic5 Pro “can track melatonin secretion to adjust the screen and reduce eye strain” by up to 18%.
- Photography: a new larger sensor, improved HDR and faster shooting (among other things). It’s delicious and you can be sure that JV Tech will test everything in detail.
Magic Vs and Magic5 were also announced by Honor
While the Magic5 Pro was the star of the event, Honor took the opportunity to reveal the price and release date of the Magic Vs, the second folding smartphone from the Chinese brand but the first to reach France. JV Tech was able to perform one Getting started with Magic Vs At the end of last year. It’s finally official, but with an arrival date still unclear and the same price as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4.
- Price : 1599$ (12 Go RAM, 512 Go storage space)
- Release Date : first quarter of 2023
But where is the Honor Magic5 at all? In fact, if there’s a Pro, there’s a Basic version, right? You were right though Honor didn’t think it made sense to offer this model in France.
Price and availability of the Honor Magic5 Pro
Now let’s get down to what’s annoying and what’s not. Like many brands and models, Honor is forced to increase its prices compared to the previous version, even if it still falls below its main competitor, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra. Note that the brand offers 3 years of software updates and 5 years of security updates.
- Price : from $1199
- Release Date : 2nd quarter 2023
