No need to scream! Thanks to the second hotfix for Sons of the Forest, there’s finally a decent quickslot feature.
The hectic rummaging through the backpack is finally over! Because with its latest update, Sons of the Forest has finally a proper hotkey function receive. The approximately 300 MB small update makes a huge difference.

Hotfix 2 was released yesterday, on February 28, 2023 at 8:21 p.m published on Steam after Europe time.

Hot Fix 2 is 344 MB big, you should have downloaded the update quickly.
What’s in the update?
Die Patch Notes for Hotfix 2 are quickly summarized and are as follows:
- Added hotkey system for mouse/keyboard. Hotkeys can be assigned in the inventory by pressing one of the digits between 0 and 9 while hovering over the item.
- A note about hotkeys has been added to the loading screen.
- Improved the hint about skipping cutscenes; it now appears briefly at the beginning [einer Zwischensequenz] or when keys are pressed that are commonly used for skipping (such as escape, the spacebar, and so on).
- A tutorial for the heavy attack has been added to the hints in the loading screen.
- The back key (escape by default) now closes the tutorial book, the construction book, and the
grab bag
-Interaction.
Small feature with a big impact
As you may notice, Hotfix 2 keeps the new content for Sons of the Forest fairly manageable. Considering the new hotkey feature, that’s not so bad. Because before, new weapons or items could only be equipped very slowly and awkwardly – we even wrote a guide for it!
With the right quickslots everything is different now: Certain items do not have to be laboriously rummaged out of the backpack, but can be picked up by simply pressing a button. As the patch notes already show, all you have to do is simply move the mouse button over the corresponding item and then press one of the number keys between 0 and 9.
In the game you can now switch between different weapons so quickly, while hungry cannibals try to gnaw on your tasty thighs or Kelvin peppers a friendly log in your direction. A dream!
