Eclipse and all I can think about is going back to kick the Witness’s ass

Ass, Eclipse, Kick, Witnesss

We Guardians of Destiny 2 have been waiting for this moment for a long time: the release of the Eclipse expansion. Bungie has gotten serious and put aside all the wavering we live in The Witch Queen to offer an unprecedented conflict, something we haven’t seen since the absent Red War.

The servers of Destiny 2 they were opened at 18:00 on February 28 after 24 hours of maintenance. It wasn’t an ideal opening, although it wasn’t a drama either: I was waiting around 10-20 minutes to enter. Once inside, I had no problems with falls. I was able to play around 6-7 hours before falling asleep.

Neomuna and the War against the Witness

The story of Destiny 2 It is in a very delicate moment. Bungie has decided to close a stage (the saga of darkness and light) and makes it a great conflict: the War against the Witness. Said conflict is divided into two very important fronts: Neomuna for the main story of the expansion and Earth (ZME) for the Season of Resistance.

Views of Neomuna

Neomuna, a hidden city on Neptune, is the new location that Bungie has prepared for us. It is a spectacular city cyberpunk-fantasy style in which purple, blue and orange tones predominate. Its mapping has a large layout, very rattling or labyrinthine, and extremely vertical. There are very few maps like this in Destiny 2 and it’s all the fault of The Binding.

Neomuna Map

Destiny 2 has a big problem: its story is incomplete and that confuses the players

Eclipse’s story begins with the arrival of The Witness, who confronts the Traveler. The villain realizes the presence of Neptune and the great power that he harbors, so he sends the Emperor Calus (an old acquaintance) with his legions to take over the planet. Osiris launches after Calus and we chase after him, leaving the Vanguard, the Traveler, and Earth behind.

As far as I’ve played, Bungie has lived up to its promises perfectly: the story is epic and exciting, and Neomuna really feels like a battlefield. Exploring the city is not an easy task and the enemies are not for bullshit: they are very strong. All factions are there in search of the great power that it hides… including the guardians.

What is it like to play Eclipse? Destiny 2 completely revamped

when we said that Destiny 2 was going to look like a Destiny 3 in Eclipse, it was not an exaggeration. Changes and novelties have been introduced that leave both veterans and new players in the same position: obsolete equipment, same power (1600) and with a lot to learn.

Armor customization menu

Armors have lost their light charge and modifiers have been completely changed. In addition, the modifiers of the seasonal object (which are unlocked with levels) are now passive and work according to the weapons and abilities that we have equipped. All this with new menus to better manage the customization and construction of builds. This is really TOP!

As I mentioned at the time, these changes have destroyed ALL of our character builds. It’s a way to start over to get a lot more power (1800) than we had in The Witch Queen. On the other hand, we have a huge amount of content:

  • The destination map has changed to fit Eclipse. All the locations we saw in The Witch Queen are maintained except for Mars, which disappears again. The design is much neater, cleaner and more intuitive.

Destination Map

  • New weapons and armor both at the playable level are very cool and have an incredible design. If you like the cyberpunk style with neons and colors, you are going to have a great time. In addition, the Binding subclass is added, which is unlocked with the main campaign and that I talk about with her below.
  • The main and secondary missions, and events of Eclipse are fun, varied and challenging. They don’t feel errand and extreme farming like they did in Shadowkeep. Remember that the abilities of the guardians have been nerfed for Eclipse, so you will have to farm a little more than usual if you do not want to go 10-20 points of power below the recommended.
  • new locations y enemies.
  • New Season Pass with a lot of content, highlighting a stasis exotic arc. I recommend that you try it because it is extremely fun.
  • Achievement system and guide: Bungie has introduced a section that does double duty. On the one hand, it organizes objectives by levels so that the new guardians have a guide.

Achievement System and Guide

  • reputation system: The same system of achievements and guides is used to see the experience and seniority of the guardians. The higher the level, the more goals you have met. A praise system has also been introduced, which is registered in our profiles. Anyone can see how the community values you.

It's not Destiny 3, but close. Bungie will revolutionize Destiny 2 by changing the game completely: these are all the news

La Atatura, the new amusement park of the guardians

The Binding is the new subclass in Destiny 2. It is unlocked advancing the eclipse story and it is presented as a power of darkness, but not as you are thinking. Bungie continues to address the conflict of Light and Darkness, philosophizing about the nature of both forces and our perspective of “good” and “evil” associated with each respectively.

The Bond is the product of that reflection. As far as I have been able to know it, it is a paracausal power that originates from Neomuna, but is completely dependent on the guardians. It is not a natural element like the rest of the subclasses, but a psychic ability to manipulate the strings of reality. It requires control, balance and flow, a very oriental philosophy.

The Binding

And what is it like to play with La Atatura? A real joy. Eclipse allows you to use it in a timely manner and the time increases until you finally master it. It allows you move very fastdeal a lot of damage to strong enemies, control large groups of enemies… Break all the vertical limits that Destiny 2 had and allows the most restless players to be able to spend 90% of the time flying, if they wish. It’s literally another way to play.

I’m really happy with what I’ve seen during the first few hours of Eclipse. The only drawbacks I can point to is the server statuswhich showed the classic “reconnecting” from time to time, and the decision of nerf guardians (not power, skills) to increase the challenge. Luckily, both drawbacks will disappear with the days. Soon you will be able to read my full review of the Eclipse expansion.
