Silent Hill and Resident Evil were already entitled to their theatrical adaptations, with more to come. But another horror license will soon have its own film.
Horror video games and cinema aren’t all that alien to each other. resident Evil, for example, already had the rights to more than a dozen feature films if we count live-action and animated films. A new horror license is coming to cinemas soon
So it’s a business somewhere between survival horror and cinema. A pretty juicy affair since then resident Evil notably storing several hundred million dollars at the box office without flinching.
And that’s why today it’s another terrible license that wants the rights to its own film and has already found partners of choice. This is Dead by Daylight, the popular asymmetric multiplayer horror game pitting one killer against four survivors.
The game has made a name for itself in the industry and still has tens of thousands of regular players. While he’s already used to horror cinema (and video game) crossovers, Dead by daylight wants to have his own feature film and is off to a good start.
Already two big names for the movie Dead by Daylight
The Behavior Studio has actually announced that the project will be built up gradually. Two studios renowned in horror cinema are already at work. This is nuclear monster (M3GAN, malicious…) and Bloomhouse (Exit, black phone). Bloomhouse will also be the producer of the film adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s and has just opened his own video game studio to develop a lot of horror games surfing on his franchises, but not only.
The film Dead by daylight therefore has quality support for his feature film project, but he still has most of the work to do. The film still has no director, the screenplay is still in its infancy. It’s not therefore tomorrow the day before that we’ll see killers tracking down and sacrificing poor survivors on the big screen, but it’s slowly picking its way.
