If you work hard, you are entitled to it, in the immortal words of parks and rec, treat yourself. That’s what YouTuber Ludwig “Ludwig” Ahgren did in August 2022, when he imported a 1997 Subaru Sambar from Japan for around $7,000. It was his”dream car‘ as he put it. A few days ago, the valuable mini truck was briefly stolen, but with the help of his eagle-eyed onlookers, Ludwig got it back. you love to see it

Ludwig was once a big name on Twitch, having started streaming in May 2018 and quickly becoming a rising star on the Amazon-owned platform. He even held the world record for most active Twitch subscribers in April 2021, which was just so recently surpassed by Kai Cenat after this streamer’s month-long subathon. Ludwig’s Twitch career didn’t last long, however, as in November 2021 he switched to exclusively streaming on YouTube, where he is now based two channels each with millions of subscribers, alongside a podcast and an esports organization. In short, Ludwig is doing very well, which explains why he would use the collected bag to buy something he has long dreamed of.

Stolen in the middle of the night

Unfortunately, that dream was briefly shattered last week when Ludwig discovered this his Subaru Sambar had been stolen. A small truck seen in anime like The Eden of Grisaia and, my personal favorite, Initial D, the Subaru Sambar is an old-school vehicle that was marketed as a van in the 80’s and 90’s and is still produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Daihatsu after more than 25 years. Its steering wheel is on the right, it drives smooth and it looks cute as hell. It may not be luxury, but it definitely has style. Ludwig recently left the truck in a warehouse to weather the weather the recent storms that have hit Los Angeles. Unfortunately on February 28th the warehouse lost power which meant the gate security was defeated and someone jacked up the car like it was nothing.

However, his disappearance proved short-lived after Ludwig asked viewers to keep an eye out for the small truck. Several people on his subreddit made plenty posts search information or designate yourself as a contact person if anyone knew anything. There was jokes, memes, helpful fansAnd videos where the sambar could be. Ultimately thanks to a member of Ludwig The yard podcast, Super Smash Bros. melee Player Anthony “Slime” Bruno (know Twitter name is “Billy Gibbons“), and the Fans helping with the search and rescue, the Subaru Sambar was found on the streets of Los Angeles on March 1st. The weird part? Some guy was chilling in the driver’s seat when Slime opened the door. The guy seemed stunned by the confrontation.

“Hey bro, we gotta take it back,” someone is heard to say.

“Take something back,” asked the guy in the sambar.

“The car,” someone said.

“What do you mean by that?” the guy asked again before showing what appeared to be a key to the sambar. It was a very strange interaction.

The perpetrator escaped… for now

In a YouTube video from March 1st, Ludwig announced that not only was the truck back in his possession, but the idiot who took his Subaru Sambar with him allegedly found a spare key that Ludwig didn’t even know existed. According to Ludwig, the random guy claimed not to be responsible for the theft. Instead, he was owed money by the thief who tried to use the sambar to settle his debt. Strange. Even weirder, the guy demanded $10,000 to hand over the car, only to flee after Ludwig’s team called the police to deal with the situation. It was later found parked at a Jin’s Massage in LA by Redditor PNG.

“The police saved the day,” said Ludwig. “The moment they show, the guy that was, I think, at the massage parlor, that was just about to wrap that up [Sambar getting] the moment the cops show up, ready to go, just run down the street. He scooby-doos out there.”

my city has reached out to Ludwig and Slime for comment.

It was only thanks to Redditors scouring LA that Ludwig was able to salvage his dream truck. Sometimes Reddit can be used forever. Imagine.

Correction, 02/03/23 6:40 PM ET: This story has been corrected to reflect that “Billy is Gibbons”. Super Smash Bros. Melee Player Anthony “Slime” Bruno.
