The UK monthly charts are for February and include sales of video game software and hardware. It was a good month for the games industry as 2.8 million console and PC games were sold across the UK in February, up 11% year-on-year. Sony’s PlayStation 5 seems to be dominating right now with the gaming industry reporting sales are up 180% year-to-date and up 300% last month, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S consoles came in second last month, although sales down a worrying 5.3% year to date, given that new systems, and the Nintendo Switch family of systems came in third with a 29% drop in sales. The best selling video game during February 2023 was Hogwarts Legacy which seems to have had extremely strong sales across the board and is the best selling game of the year so far.
- PS5 sales increased by 316% compared to the same period last year and 27% compared to January
- Xbox Series S and X platforms increased sales by 21% in February compared to January, and were up 15% compared to February last year. Year-to-date, platform sales have fallen slightly by 5.3%.
- It’s a tough start to the year for the Nintendo Switch. Sales for February fell by 15% compared to January, and by 29% compared to this time last year.
“There are no Nintendo games in the Top Ten this month, although it’s worth noting that Nintendo does not share digital data with the ranking company. One of its big releases, Metroid Prime Remastered (which had a surprise launch earlier this month as a digital download) is therefore missing from the charts”
