A review of some underrated recent games that haven’t received the popularity they deserve despite their quality, what I can tell you is very good
Underrated games have been around forever. It is a recurring theme in forums and websites specializing in video games, and from ComunidadXbox we want to show you our particular list. We must inform you that only appear on this list titles belonging to the Xbox One and Xbox Series generation, so there will be no games from 360 or previous generations. Additionally, we want to avoid typical games that always appear on these types of lists. We already know that Sunset Overdrive, Celeste or Mad Max are very good, but they are no longer so unknown. The order of the games is random. And after all that, we start:
10. Termination resistor
Terminator Resistance is a first-person shooter based on the famous saga created by James Cameron. The game was released in 2019 and developed by Teyon (the creators of the equally loved and hated Rambo: The Videogame). Terminator Resistance tells a completely original story but very linked to the cinema. Set 30 years after the Last Judgment, and in the skin of Jacob Rivers, a soldier in the service of John Connor, trying to survive in a world invaded by machines.. The title, if you are a fan of the machine saga, is fabulous. A story with many characters that we can interact with, with decision-making, different endings, stealth touches, survival and a fabulous setting. It is true that we notice that it is an AA production, but if you are a fan of this saga or of action games, it is a highly recommended title.
9. Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom
I can only think of one word to describe Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, y es hermoso. This platform title developed by Game Atelier is a spiritual successor to the famous Wonder Boy saga of the 80s and the fact is that the game had the support of the creator of this saga. The game has a sublime art section, all drawn by hand. Moreover, its gameplay is also exquisite. With a metroidvania approach, the adventure lasts approximately 15 hours
8. In sound mind
In Sound Mind is a game that blends action, horror, exploration and puzzles in a remarkable way. In the game we will control a psychologist named Desmond who must investigate a series of patients through tapes, each of which completely changes the game. quite interesting and ingenious new mechanics are continually presented to us, ensuring that during the 12 hours that the adventure lasts, we never have the impression of repetition. The artistic section is also remarkable, leaving very beautiful imprints. The We Create Stuff studio has produced with In Sound Mind a project totally different from what we were used to in the genre, and highly recommended to lovers of this type of adventure. In Sound Mind has analysis in ComunidadXbox
7. Young Souls
Young Souls is a game that combines Beat’em Up and RPG genres. Developed by the French studio, 1P2P is a cooperative game in which we will control two brothers who must defend the world from an invasion of goblins. Despite its childish appearance, the game’s story is quite complex, being very well shot and with some surprises. We can improve our characters with a system taken directly from role-playing titles, and the truth is that with a lot of complexity. Beat’em Up-style gameplay is easy to learn, but hard to master, being quite difficult, although the title has many accessibility options. If you want to spend two fun afternoons (it lasts about 8-10 hours) in company and alone, this is your game. Remember that Young Souls is available on Game Pass, even if it will be removed from the service in a few days.. To take advantage of.
6. Chernobylite
Chernobylite is a game developed by The Farm 51 that unfortunately released with multiple errors on previous generation consoles that prevented users from seeing the real quality of the title. After being released on current-gen consoles and fixing all existing issues, we can say that Chernobylite is a real game. The story of Chernobylite takes place as we can guess in Chernobyl, after the nuclear incident that occurred in 1986. The story mixes fantasy and reality, with a plot that is simply spectacular, with conspiracy plots, paranormal beings and even wormholes. As for its gameplay We are faced with a first-person title that mixes action, exploration, terror and survival, doing everything in a very remarkable way.. Graphically the game looks very good for a AA product. A game that science fiction fans should not miss.
5. Tinykin
Tinykin was a big surprise for me last year. I knew nothing about this title and it ended up being my particular GOTY of 2022 (pardon me Elden Ring). Tinykin is a mix of 3D platformers like Banjo and the Nintendo Pikmin saga. Our protagonist is Milo, a tiny being who travels to Earth in search of the origins of his civilization. Tinykin’s greatest virtue is its majestic level design. Everything around us will be huge, since we are the size of an insect and there will be 1000 things to do, both collectibles to collect, missions to complete and puzzles to solve. Most of these puzzles are solved using the Tinykin, beings that accompany us and that we can use to perform certain actions, like the Pikmin.. The art design is excellent too, with 2D characters moving around in 3D settings. It is also available on Game Pass.
4. Pumpkin Jack
All gamers of a certain age fondly remember the days of the PS1. Very good platform games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro or Medievil have come out of it. Well, Pumpkin Jack is very inspired by the latter. Nicolas Meyssonier’s project (yes, it was developed by one person) although it is inspired by the adventures of Sir Daniel Fortesque, it has distinct differences. And it is that if in the Sony saga the action predominated, here the platforms predominate. Although there will also be many clashes with enemies and even end bosses, the jumps are the axis of the game. The control of our protagonist is a delight, being able to make impossible jumps with a lot of comfort. Another aspect to highlight are the graphics, very colorful and pretty, with a Halloween theme but very colorful. For lovers of 32 and 64 bit era games, this is your game.
3. Bloodroots
Do you like the Hotline Miami saga? If the answer is yes, this title is perfect for you. Bloodroots is a game developed by the Paper Cult studio where you play Mr. Wolf, who is betrayed and left for dead by his former companions. For this reason, we will go through different levels in search of revenge, killing everything that gets in our way. The game is clearly inspired by the Hotline Miami saga, but with a different approach. And it is that we can use as a weapon almost all the elements that we see on the screen, from an ax to a fish. In addition, we have the possibility of jumping, which makes the title very dynamic. I promise you Bloodroots is a delight at the controls, stringing together kills and combos in a very satisfying way. Graphically it is also at a very high level. The game was available on Game Pass, but unfortunately it is no longer available today.
2. BROK the Investigator
BROK the InvestiGator is a title that I had the pleasure of reviewing here at ComunidadXbox and it really surprised me. It’s a graphic adventure but with a novelty in the genre, there are many action and combat sections. The fights are Beat’em Up style with different types of attacks and combos. The combat is not very deep, it is true, but it is not necessary, because it is not the main axis of the game, but it gives it variety, among so many puzzles and decisions typical of a graphic adventure. The story, on the other hand, is remarkable, a plot that hides much more than meets the eye.. Developer Cowcat did a great job. BROK the InvestiGator went on sale just a few days ago, specifically on March 1st.
1. Marsupilami: Hoobadventure
As you can see from the games that make up this top, the platform genre is one of my favorites, and Marsupilami: Hoobadventure is a very good representative of this genre. In a title based on the Belgian cartoon created in 1959, we must save Palombia from a strange ghost who was accidentally freed by our protagonist. The story isn’t deep at all, it’s just a channel to advance through beautiful levels full of dangers and collectibles. We can choose between three characters, Punch, Twister and Hope to overcome the levels and worlds of the game. As you can see in the image above, the game is magnificent. Each level has a different and perfectly recreated theme. The mastery of the character is also perfect. It is true that the game is quite simple, but this it has been fixed with a completely free update in which new levels have been added much more difficult than those of the original game. We also have a very difficult time trial mode.
And here is the end of this list. As Honorable mentions include games like Get Even (from the same creators as Chernobylite), Hell Pie, Tails of Iron or The Council. Although perhaps, in a second hypothetical part of this top, we can add all the games that we have left out. Do you have an underrated game on your list? What do you think is missing from this list? As always and with great pleasure, see you in the next one, in ComunidadXbox.
