Children of the forest improves AI companions and may add new modes of transportation

Add, children, companions, forest, improves, modes, transportation

After a developer Q&A that took place on Reddit and Discord, Children of the Forest players finally got some answers about what to expect from the game going forward (thanks, PC Gamer).

Watch the trailer for Children of the Forest here.

“We have big plans to keep adding to what Kelvin can do,” says Endnight Games. There are plans to potentially have AI companions help build defensive walls around our bases, while repairing/fortifying bases if necessary.

Now, Kelvin is great for gathering building resources and even food, but he’s kind of useless beyond that, to be honest. That said, like Virginia, he’s still a lot of fun.

“For Virgina, we plan to add more to her AI, especially if she has a weapon, she will be braver, and also depending on how many mutants/cannibals she kills,” Endnight said of Children of the Forest Shared companions on his beloved topic, which was an instant hit with players, even if Kelvin does like tearing down treehouses.

Additionally, Endnight Games shared some other work it plans to do. To start, new details and cutscenes will be added to enhance the Children of the Forest story, along with new changes to the cannibal camp, including new enemies. There will also eventually be new items to craft, as well as more tools to prevent any bad apples from wrecking public servers.

When the game launched, people immediately demanded that log sleds return in Children of the Forest. This particular item, used to move a ton of logs from point A to point B in the forest, currently does not exist in Children of the Forest. Endnight shared, “It’s one of the really cool things about early access. Internally, we didn’t realize how much people liked the log sled, and because of the amount of bugs it had in the first game, we weren’t sure about it. Is it worth bringing back into service.”

Alas, there might be some good news for those of us who miss our beloved log sleigh dearly: “In the last week after launch, it’s clear that this is something players miss.” That’s not confirmation at all that log sleighs will return, but Endnight has acknowledged us The fact of how many people miss this device terribly makes me hopeful that it will return.

A full rundown of the community Q&A on Endnight Games can be found on YouTube, and you’ll no doubt find that there are plenty of unanswered questions. You might also be begging for a shortcut around the sprawling island, for example; getting from one side to the other can take a full half-hour of holding down the “W” key at the best of times.

“We do have ideas that we think are really cool [faster forms of transportation] But didn’t want to go into details in case it wasn’t as interesting as we thought it would be, or it didn’t fit the environment,” Endnight said.

Recently, my friends and I have set up countless ziplines around the island and even turned the top of a snowy mountain into our own sledding range. I’m perfectly fine with this form of transportation right now, but it would be cool if Endnight would let me drive around in one of the many golf carts scattered around the place.
