Destiny 2: Lightfall servers suddenly went down last night as players experienced huge login queues, connection issues, and sudden boots into orbit. This only happened the day before the Nightmare Roots raid.
through the official announcement BungieHelp Twitter account, the game was temporarily shut down to “assist in the investigation of error codes, inability to log in, and log in queues.” The servers are now back online, but with an extra maintenance period today, hopefully the upcoming raid release goes well.
As you can imagine, the community took it in stride by sharing their tragic disconnects or creating new memes to revel in the chaos. Some users on the Destiny 2 Reddit are pushing out custom gags based on the title of the expansion, or simply looking at the status of the servers.
Perhaps the most tragic incident occurred on Reddit, courtesy of user Brycegum, who was kicked out of space by the server in the middle of a Vexcalibur secret exotic mission. It made him, and no doubt his friends, wasted time and hopes dashed.
Ultimately, as some have mentioned, it’s a good thing that this is happening now rather than on Friday, when the world will either watch the Raid race or pass the Raid itself. For those of you who don’t know, th is is a huge event in the Destiny 2 community, attracting thousands of eyes around the world.
While many people weren’t too happy with some aspects of Destiny 2: Bright, the game was the biggest launch in the franchise’s history. With that in mind, you can imagine Wednesday (as the weekly reset day) that a large number of people might try to increase their light levels at the same time.
So let’s hope this doesn’t become a trend for the next few days. As we edge closer to the action-packed climax of the initial version of Lightfall, light a candle for the poor server who is no doubt experiencing the ringing.
