We live a few years where purchases and acquisitions of studies are the order of the day. Microsoft is all eyes after the Bethesda purchase and the Activision acquisition process, but Sony acquired studios like Bungie around this time and Tencent continued to position itself with more purchases. Not to mention Embracer Group, the other major animator in the industry who recently acquired the western studios of Square Enix.
Even so, some studies clearly indicate that they want to continue to enjoy their independence and not be closed to a single company. And in that group is Bloober Team.
Bloober Team advocates independence
According to a recent statement from IGN, its CEO, Piotr Babieno, the idea of the study is to remain independent. At least that is their current intention, as they commented in the aforementioned interview, where they say they want to keep this independence in order to continue developing the projects they want.
If we have someone who acquires us, maybe one day they will make the decision and tell us that “tmaybe we could put them in a different project“and I don’t want to. Those people who came to see us from other big studios in Poland and abroad, I think they came because they would like to be part of the creative process. My goal is to remain independent. We reviewed our strategic choices and decided that as a company, we would like to follow the path of independence.
Thus, Bloober Team’s position is more than clear. Of course, it must be remembered that in 2021 Tencent acquired 22% of the study for just over 19.5 million dollars, becoming the main shareholder. Although this purchase did not prevent the study, to this day, from continuing to be independent.
