Professor Layton and the new Steam world There’s already a new trailer confirming that Luke’s best boy detective is back.
Level-5, the developer of the popular puzzle series, recently held a showcase showing off some of its games in development, including a second look at the upcoming Professor Layton title, which will debut at February’s Nintendo Direct. The new trailer doesn’t show off any gameplay (I mean, it’ll obviously have more puzzles) but it does give us something bigger than that: Luke!
When it was announced in a Nintendo Direct, it was more of a “yes, we’re doing a new one” type of deal rather than telling us anything concrete. There will obviously be some sort of new, steampunk-influenced setting, and the latest trailer has confirmed it will be set in the US. Layton fans obviously know that’s where Luke and his family moved, so this game will be their first reunion in a long time.
The game is set a year after Layton and Luke parted ways in Unwound Future, and Luke invites the Professor to America, a land where technology is developing very rapidly, giving us a steampunk vibe. While the mystery itself remains very mysterious, the city will develop further as you solve it. There’s no word yet on an English-language voice actor, but Layton’s Japanese VA Hiroshi Oizumi will return for the role, while Mio Imada will take over the role of Luke.
Level-5 also announced a partnership with YouTube channel and puzzle game developer QuickKnock, which will create puzzles for the game.
Professor Layton and the New World on Steam is currently scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch, but there’s no release date yet, so we can put our puzzle hats on for now.
