a new one children of the forest The patches are here, adding tons of features and fixing tons of bugs and glitches.
Children of the Forest recently launched into Early Access, so obviously things aren’t quite as good as they should be right now. It might be a bit glitchy, and it probably won’t be a smooth experience until a full release, but that doesn’t mean it’s still not a lot of fun. Endnight Games is working fast, though, as the first patch has been released, adding a ton of features big and small, as well as some game balancing, improvements, and a long list of fixes. One of the biggest features added in this update is the introduction of hang gliders, which are apparently useful for getting around mountainous landscapes.
Binoculars have also been added, sure to be a useful item that will help you spot cannibals on the island from afar. You’ll have to play the game to know what it’s like, but to add some challenge, a boss fight has also been added to the food barn. There are also some new story elements, and you’ll be able to view story sheets more easily with the added zoom feature. Also keep an eye out for trees, as “angry common cannibals” (probably my favorite way I’ve heard cannibals described) can jump from trees to attack.
One notable fix is that Kelvin, an NPC sidekick who is quickly becoming a fan favorite, will no longer cut down trees that have player buildings attached to them. So far, Kelvin will chop down almost any tree in his line of sight if you instruct him to do so, apparently the players thought he was a bit silly, but now he’s a lot more careful.
The update also includes a ton of other fixes: you’ll no longer get stuck if you die while climbing a rope, cannibals won’t suddenly bite windows to climb in, and unfortunately for speed runners, you should Ability to use a stick to pass through locked doors. You’ll also find a number of improvements such as better red cannibal animations and mixing, unique/story items force equip when collected, and radios have been added to bunker food.
