The miracle is supposed to happen, the release of Dead Island 2 is finally imminent after several years of development and a change of developers. How much playing time did you end up getting?
On April 21st it should finally be time and Dead Island 2 should come on the market. The game has meanwhile been through a long and relatively insane odyssey until it finally ended up at Dambuster Studios after Yager and Sumo Digital in 2018 and is now actually nearing completion.
The exciting question now is what the game is ultimately good for and how long it can keep us busy. At least the last question was now being talked to by art director Adam Olsson WCCF Tech answered.
According to this, the playing time of Zombie Schnetzei should total around 20 hours, including some side missions and other activities. Doesn’t sound like much at first, but Olsson points out that on top of that comes co-op, collectibles, and the ability to replay the game with one of the other characters at any time.
Dambuster Studios also confirms that it is a story-driven action role-playing game and not an open-world title. Although there would be different sized districts in virtual Los Angeles, they will be unlocked gradually as the story progresses, with the option to return to earlier areas.
At least now you know how much time to plan for Dead Island 2 when it releases on April 21st for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Then you can see if Dambuster Studios, who completely redesigned the game after taking over development, did a good job.
Colleague Dennis was only able to play the first hours of the game recently and summarized his impressions in a preview of Dead Island 2.
