Google Play’s website got a drastic design change last year, and the changes weren’t just cosmetic. With this redesign also came the filters for the different types of devices, which have now been extended to make it easier for us to find applications for phones, tablets, TVs, Chromebooks, watches and Android Auto.
These device categories are also available if we use Google Play on the mobile, being a very convenient way to install applications on all our devices from the mobile, remotely in some cases. We tell you how you can take advantage of these categories to find applications for your devices and install them
Applications for mobile phones, tablets, Android Auto…
The normal thing is to install apps on every Android device from the device itself, but over time Google Play has become a tool for install apps on your other devices, wherever they are. It started with the web version of Google Play and the ability to download apps to mobile remotely and over time grew to include more devices.
Google Play’s website redesign has made it more evident by including buttons to filter apps by devices: We first had a phone filter: tablet, TV and Chromebook and now we also have a watch and a car.
After pressing any of these buttons, we will see the lists of the best applications and recommendations for each type of device, comfortably from our PC if we use the Google Play website. In any case, we can discover or find interesting applications and remotely request that they be downloaded to the appropriate device.
the same is available in the Google Play app on mobilealthough a bit more hidden as we found it in the tab Other devices, whether in the Games category or in the applications category. Immediately below we have the buttons for the filters of watch, tv and car.
This way you have much easier to explore apps you might install on your TV with Android TV, without having to struggle with the TV’s frustrating Google Play, as well as checking out cool apps for Android Auto and Wear OS.
From Google Play to all your devices
Even better, in addition to viewing cool apps, you can also install them on your other devices. This is possible with the Google Play website and, relatively recently, with the Google Play app on mobile phones.
On the Google Play website, it is very simple because when we click on the download, a pop-up window appears where you have to choose on which device. In this list we will see the mobiles, tablets, televisions with Android TV and Chromebooks compatible with this application.
by pressing Download, Google takes note and the next time this device is connected to the internet, Google Play will be instructed to download pending applicationseither five minutes later or a month later.
With Google Play on mobile, the process is similar but different. When an application is available for this mobile and other of our devices, we will see an arrow on the download button with which we can display a panel. It shows us the other compatible devices and we can check a box on which we also want to install the application.
When an application is only available for another device (for example, an application only for Android TV), the Install button does not appear, but a panel called Available on more deviceswhere we can click on Install next to the corresponding device.
This, for Android TV, tablets, Chromebooks and Wear OS watches, since Android Auto applications are installed on the mobile which connects to the car and projects on the car screen.
