It’s that time of year again Jak Museum announces its ‘World Video Game Hall of Fame’ finalists, and two Nintendo classics have been nominated for 2023.
First up is the 2006 Wii launch title Wii Sports – featuring five motion-controlled sports in one collection, and next up, we have Rare’s licensed N64 shooter from 1997, GoldenEye 007. As amazing as both of these titles are, they also are also fantastic against serious competition.
Other nominees include the following games: id Software’s influential FPS Quake, Microsoft’s legendary RTS Age of Empiresprobably best CoD – Call of Duty 4: Modern WarfareEA is long lived FIFA series, a mobile sensation Angry birds2K is very popular NBA series, Naughty Dog’s PlayStation success story The last of ushit from 1996 Barbie fashion designerthe 1981 fantasy RPG pioneer Magic and the first commercial video game Computer space – dates from 1971.
You can vote once a day, and the three games that receive the most votes from the public will be submitted on one ballot to join the other “top three entries” from members of the National Advisory Selection Committee. The final guests will be revealed May 4. Here are the criteria on which the final selection is based:
“The World Video Game Hall of Fame at The Strong recognizes electronic games of all types that have enjoyed popularity over a long period of time and made an impact on the video game industry or on popular culture and society in general.”
The selected titles will be existing titles such as Animal Crossing, Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter II, Minecraft and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You can see previous interns at Strong National Museum of Play website.
