news culture ‘Stop your racist abuse’ The director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 publicly dismantles a hater
While the director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was happy to introduce us to one of the new actors in the film, one surfer saw fit to express his racism in the comments. A mistake James Gunn did not overlook.
One last job before changing teams
If you follow the news surrounding Marvel and DC movies, you know that James Gunn has recently taken the reins of DC Studios. Until then famous for directing the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the director will therefore have to ditch this universe very soon in order to jump with both feet into that of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.
Before we get to that though, James Gunn intends to shut down the galaxy’s most notorious losers club. As Phase 4 of the MCU evolves thanks to the arrival of Kang the Conqueror (whom you could see in the Loki series on Disney + and in the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in cinemas), The Guardians of the Galaxy is returning to cinemas for a third and final installment. Scheduled for May 3, the latter risks playing on our feelings and tagging MCU fans by exploring Rocket Raccoon’s past in particular.
One less hater
As is often the case with sequels in the MCU, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will not only be the opportunity to find Peter Quill and his gang. In fact, in addition to the characters that audiences already know, the film will feature Adam Warlock (played by Will Poulter) and The Master of Evolution. Both featured in the latest trailer (which you can check out above), it’s that final character that got people talking, especially on the networks.
While James Gunn had just posted a photo of Chukwudi Iwuji in the guise of the Master of Evolution on his Instagram account, one user protested in the comments section. According to him, the British actor (born in Nigeria) was only known for “Surf to political correctness‘ and not for his talent. Kind of a totally racist comment that’s easy to find on the internet, but that James Gunn didn’t want to let go. He therefore immediately reacted to the Internet user with the following words:
I picked the best actor and best person for the role, period. I don’t care about Chukwudi Iwuji’s ethnicity. So stop making racist assumptions about why he was chosen. And by the way, he plays a guy who’s almost always purple.
Something to clarify for Guardians of the Galaxy fans. As a reminder, the third volume of the adventures of Peter Quill and his band of grandiose losers is slated for a theatrical release on May 3, 2023.
