Product leaks are already part of the normal product news cycle and companies are taking advantage of it. If not, tell Apple and Samsung, who dominate the headlines throughout the year with rumors and previews of their phones.

That’s the only good thing we can say about the latest Pixel 7a leak: it at least shows there’s a lot of interest in Google’s new phone. We don’t know if it will be a consolation for Google that one of its products ended up on sale much earlier than expected.
The Pixel 7a appears on eBay
Indeed, the Pixel 7a could already be purchased, but not in its final version. An eBay user posted an auction on the auction site, offering what he called a “prototype” of the new model, surprisingly given that it has yet to be officially announced and that for Google , this mobile does not exist.
Everything indicates that the word “prototype” in this case was used to explain that it is not a commercial product and therefore comes without box or warranty (obviously). We don’t know how the user got this unit from the Pixel 7a, but everything points to it being true as its design matches other leaks we’ve seen in the past few days.
Also, the device has clearly been used conscientiously, and in fact, it is missing some parts like the SIM card slot. Additionally, the rear has been modified with a unique design that identifies it as a previous model that should not be sold to the public. Finally, this mobile does not start and remains stuck in fast start, so it would probably be necessary to reinstall Android and lose the version it has installed.
Despite all these drawbacks, it’s still a very interesting technology, and it’s no surprise that the user started the auction by asking $1,650; even if It fetched a price of at least $2550, before eBay takes action on the matter and closes the auction. As of this writing, the mobile is no longer available, although it’s unclear if this is because Google has contacted eBay and the user to get the device back.
And it’s that it’s hard to see this as anything other than a blatant failure by Google. These prototypes are common among manufacturers, and are generally given to employees or managers so that they can put them into practice and give their opinion. For example, Google CEO Sundar Pichai was caught wearing the Pixel Watch long before the watch was officially announced.
That a device like this ended up in the hands of a third party and they tried to sell it (and eventually succeeded) doesn’t speak very well of Google and we imagine it will act on it.
