Wasteland 2

Wasteland 2 Directors Cut - Gameplay-Trailer: Story und Konsequenzen

Wasteland 2 Director’s Cut – Gameplay Trailer: Story and Consequences

  • Developer: inXile
  • Publishing year: 2014
  • Price & Discount: 6.24 dollars, reduced by 75 percent

Fabiano Uslenghi: I will never forget the summer of 2016. For an internship I was sitting in a small apartment in Berlin and had to leave my home computer behind. As a result, the only thing I had to use was my laptop, which was already breaking a sweat with The Dark Eye: Demonicon. I have Wasteland 2 to thank for the fact that I didn’t have to do without a reasonably modern role-playing game.

Well, “modern” is only half the word. The fact that Wasteland 2 ran smoothly on my hardware-poor notebook was due to the fact that it was graphically based in the past.

The good thing about it: What Wasteland 2 lacks in graphics power, it more than makes up for in role-playing depth! This RPG was the first to revive the forgotten power of old Fallout parts and served up an old school apocalypse adventure in which we lead a squad of wasteland rangers and equip them with dozens of different abilities.

Anyone who has had enough of fantasy but loves classic RPGs for their complexity simply has to give Wasteland a chance. This also applies to the graphically extremely improved successor Wasteland 3which slipped just over the 10 euro limit for this article.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

South Park: The Stick of Truth – Test video for role-playing implementation

  • Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
  • Publishing year: 2014
  • Price & Discount: 7.49 dollars, reduced by 75 percent

Alex Bernhardt: South Park is probably one of those series that you either love or find totally nuts. That also applies to the game to a certain extent. The humor seems to have sprung from one of the numerous episodes: fecal jokes are by far the most harmless jokes that The Stick of Truth allows itself. Not all of you will like that, but it can certainly lead to nasty fits of laughter for some of you.

But where almost everyone agrees: The gameplay is terrific! The Stick of Truth isn’t a half-baked knock-off just trying to sell itself through the name and a few hints – it’s got some really good round tactics on offer! It can be quite challenging at times, but with the diverse (and highly creative) abilities of our squad, every battle is fun.

Since the game looks exactly like a Southpark episode thanks to the graphics, you don’t even notice that the game is almost ten years old. And how many games can claim 97 percent positive reviews on Steam?

Fallout 4

Fallout 4 – Live-Action-Trailer »The Wanderer«

  • Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
  • Publishing year: 2015
  • Price & Discount: 6.59 dollars, 67 percent reduced

Tilmann beer: Fallout 4 continues to be the game I’ve spent the most time in. Bethesda Game Studios’ most vibrant and immersive open world yet, the post-apocalyptic wasteland invites exploration, questing, and experimentation.

The role-playing aspects in particular are a bit thinner than in previous titles, but the modern shooter gameplay is much more fun. There are cool and useful skills, numerous classic firearms as well as futuristic guns and the new, ingenious power armor in which you feel like an invincible tank.

By the way, for a few dollars more you can get all the expansions, especially because of Far Harbor and also for Nuka World, it’s really worth it! Also, if you decide to buy it, I highly recommend starting out in survival mode. This makes the game much more exciting and finally makes the optional settlements really useful.

Grim Dawn

Grim Dawn – Test video for the finished action RPG hope

  • Developer: Crate Entertainment
  • Publishing year: 2016
  • Price & Discount: 5.99 dollars, reduced by 75 percent

Phil Elsner: With the first beta of Diablo 4 just over, the void needs to be filled somehow. A void calling for a gritty open-world action RPG filled with loot and cool boss fights. And that’s exactly where Grim Dawn comes in!

Of course, the game looks a bit outdated in direct comparison with Blizzard’s colossus, but the eerily staged world has hardly lost any of its charm and the character system is as motivating as ever. An ingenious flow of slicing up monsters, collecting loot, improving your character and tactical battles against final bosses quickly develops.

In addition, Grim Dawn also has a few real unique selling points with its great faction system (which can sometimes even have a lasting impact on the game world) and some rather unusual classes such as Demolitionist or Occultist. With this you can easily pass the time until the open beta of Diablo 4 and the phase until the release in June. Oh yes: the addons on Steam are all fabulous and also reduced. Well then, happy hunting!

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr

Warhammer 40K Inquisitor: Martyr - Trailer for the full release of the action role-playing game

Warhammer 40K Inquisitor: Martyr – Trailer for the full release of the action role-playing game

  • Developer: Neocore Games
  • Publishing year: 2018
  • Price and discount: 9.99 dollars, reduced by 80 percent

Dimitry Halley: For me, Steam Sales are the perfect opportunity to try games from the second tier. Because there are many candidates like Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr, which can hardly withstand the direct competition to Diablo and Co. at the time of release, but over time they mature like good wine. Patches fix problems, improve balance and the price goes down.

You get a Diablo in the Warhammer 40K universe, nothing more, nothing less. Choose your inquisitor, explore a supposedly abandoned spaceship, encounter threats and shoot, knock and cast enemies against the wall. Even four years after the release, Martyr still looks good, there are now additional classes via DLC, but in my opinion the basic game is enough to give you a few wonderfully action-packed hours until the release of Diablo 4.

Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout: New Vegas - Test video for the end-time role-playing game

Fallout: New Vegas – Test video for the end-time role-playing game

  • Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
  • Publishing year: 2010
  • Price and discount: 2.49 dollars, reduced by 75 percent

Valentin Aschenbrenner: Ah, New Vegas. The mere mention of this game title brings me back to nostalgic memories. But I will never forget this masterpiece of an RPG. A bulging open world full of complex characters and interesting side quests awaits you here, where you can really do almost anything you want.

In my opinion, the stories and side stories of the Bethesda fallouts never came close to those of Obsidian – and if you don’t hit the really cheap price of just 2.50 dollars, you have no more excuses. You can’t even get an alcoholic hop drink in Munich for so little money!

Of course, the graphics and combat system of Fallout: New Vegas have not aged well, but the wonderful and absolutely clever dialogues make up for it. Anyone who gets involved in the post-apocalypse of the Mojave Wasteland will not let go of New Vegas any time soon. One last tip: The Ultimate Edition with all DLCs does not even cost a 10. My favorite? dead money Here is a mixture of horror and heist thriller hidden in a role-playing game.

Jade Empire

Jade Empire - Test-Video

5:13

Jade Empire – Test-Video

  • Developer: BioWare
  • Publishing year: 2007
  • Price and discount: 3.12 dollars, reduced by 75 percent

Mary Marx: When we talk about BioWare, we often talk about Mass Effect or Dragon Age, but we forget that BioWare has released many other great titles. Like Jade Empire for example. Well, given its proud age, it may be a bit outdated graphically, but I still enjoy the idea, the setting and the combat system a lot to this day.

It is not only an absolute joy to smack opponents with the fighting style of the drunken fist or to shred the next demon into ghost shreds with the help of the tiger claws. The characters and companions also quickly grew on you in the old BioWare style.

For just 3.12 dollars (that currently corresponds to about one and a half cucumbers) you can now experience the classic again or finally catch up. Maybe only throw one on occasion Blick ins Steam-Forumto fix any performance issues that may arise. Old games, new systems… you know the dilemma.
