The Witcher: Project Sirius: Game of Molasses Flood apparently again on the drawing board

Apparently, board, Drawing, flood, game, Molasses, project, Sirius, Witcher

CD Projekt RED recently announced a whole batch of new Witcher projects and one of them is from studio Molasses Flood. But the project doesn’t seem to be getting off the ground yet.

There’s quite a bit of work to do as far as the Witcher universe goes. CDPR itself is working on the prelude to a new trilogy, plus the remake of the first The Witcher, which is overseen by Fools Theory. The Molasses Flood studio is also working on a spin-off that will give the Witcher universe an innovative twist. But the project doesn’t seem to be running smoothly yet.

Project Sirius, the working title of the game by The Molasses Flood, has apparently been ordered back to the drawing board. According to a announcement In an investor report, CD Projekt RED appears to have “taken an impairment charge in respect of costs incurred in connection with the development of Project Sirius” and stated that these costs “will have a corresponding impact on financial results for the first quarter of 2023”.

The Company further states that the decision is “based on the results of the evaluation of the scope and commercial potential of the original Project Sirius concept and on the ongoing work to formulate a new framework for this project.”

Exactly what the background is is hard to foresee, but apparently CDPR is not entirely satisfied with the current concept of the game. The statements on “scope and commercial potential” are too vague to draw any concrete conclusions. Judging from previous job postings at The Molasses Flood, the title appears conceptually to feature procedural generation, branching story, and co-op gameplay, among other things. Is the studio possibly working on a Diablo-like title?
