Ever since Microsoft announced plans to buy Activision/Blizzard for $68.7 billion, Sony has been on the defensive for fear of losing one of its flagship video game licenses. Players will then witness what looks like a console war, but between two giants of the video game industry. Even today, as investigations continue as to whether or not the acquisition can go ahead, Microsoft is taking the PlayStation brand to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
Indeed, after Sony more or less rejected an agreement that would have allowed the next Call of Duty games to land on PlayStation consoles now Microsoft is losing patience: it is directly challenging the Japanese manufacturer to create its own Call of Duty.

This attack is obviously not trivial, because if Sony is currently opposed to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision / Blizzard, it is fear of losing the Call of Duty license in the future and with it consumers.
Next to, The Japanese giant was quick to respond to the Xbox brand, simply stating that it was impossible to replace an established license like Call of Duty. At the same time, Sony adds that the franchise is “essential”, it is a “blockbuster that has no rival”.
It is not yet known if Sony will take back and accept the proposed 10 years of Call of Duty games on PlayStation. Note, however, that the CMA will start on the 26th. In other words, it will happen sooner than expected!
